This is the part of the site where my wife Diana told me that I should write… “something genuinely from the heart, honest and in the first person…” The simple truth is that I am ‘Nic Cleave Photography’.
I’m a full-time, professional wedding and location-based portrait photographer, based in South Wales on the M4 corridor, where I live with my beautiful wife and our three wonderful children. I’m privileged to photograph weddings and families all over Wales and the UK for a living, and I love what I do passionately!
There are a few things about me that often strike a chord with my clients. Firstly, Diana and I were both disappointed with our own wedding photos. Secondly, I’m ‘camera-shy’ and so have always preferred to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. Thirdly, my clients have said that I’m friendly and unobtrusive and have the ability to bring with me a sense of ‘calmness,’ which is often appreciated on a hectic wedding day or when trying to capture ‘natural’ images of a large group of children!
I’m happiest when spending time with my family and my three children are without doubt my proudest achievement. I’m a family person with strong family values and proudly bring this quality to my business, where I’m fortunate enough to work with wonderful families throughout the year, across the UK and beyond, often on the happiest day of their lives so far.
Over the years I’ve developed a photographic style that my couples and families describe as ‘Creative’, ‘Unobtrusive’ and ‘Documentary‘.’ It’s based around producing high quality, natural looking images that capture the story of your wedding day or portrait session with the minimum of intervention from me. The truth is, my clients are much better at describing my style and approach than I am.
My creative-documentary style of wedding and family portrait photography has received a growing number of awards from professional organisations, and I’m often asked to write and contribute my work to features in national and international magazines, but above all else it’s the long list of kind words and referrals from my couples and families that provide the drive and passion for my work. Something which continually serves to remind me how lucky I am to do something I love for a living.
