Reasons for having an engagement portrait session:
A 'dry run' of the photography part of your wedding day
Getting married is often the first time that most people are photographed by a professional photographer. It therefore makes sense to have a 'dry run' with the photography part of your day, as many brides will with their hair and make-up stylist etc.
You can get used to the way your photographer works, see his/her work first hand, and have the opportunity to 'fine tune' poses and the style and type of photos you are both looking for from your forthcoming wedding day. It's also the perfect opportunity for you to discuss tips and tricks with your photographer to ensure that you look the best in your photos.
Camera-shy or nervous?
Many of our couples claim to be 'camera-shy' when we initially meet them, or full-on nervous at the thought of being photographed professionally. It is often these couples who are most glad afterwards, that they included an engagement session in their wedding photography package.
Venue visit with your photographer
If your location-based engagement portrait session takes place at your wedding venue, it will be the perfect time to explore photo opportunities and to discuss with your photographer where you might want photos on the day to be taken.
Engagement photos in your wedding album?
Increasingly we are finding that many couples are so pleased with their engagement session photos that they are requesting that we include some of them in their final wedding album designs. Also of course, if your engagement session takes place in beautiful weather but the big day itself is wet, you still have some beautiful intimate photos of yourselves taken outside.
Location and timing of the session
This of course depends on you. We recommend that your session happens at least three months before the big day itself. (Any closer and you will be too caught up in the last minute planning for the big day itself to fully relax and then choose your favourite images afterwards.)
If you are getting married in our local area we might suggest that you consider using the actual venue (with their permission,) or otherwise can always recommend local places that will provide a spectacular backdrop for your session photos. Another choice is to select somewhere important or special to the two of you for your session.
How it works and what's included
Most sessions last 1-2 hours on-site. Within a few days you'll be able to schedule your viewing session at our studio, where you'll get to see all of the images from your shoot. After the viewing session you'll be able to share a slide-show of all your session images with family and friends from a password protected page of our website.
Our location engagement portrait session includes a print credit voucher of £50 which can be used to purchase unframed prints in any size. Further prints and other portrait products are also available if required and can be ordered at the end of your viewing session. Click here to see the full range.
Engagement portrait session fee: £195
Our location-based engagement portrait sessions are completely separate from our wedding packages. The cost of a session is £195 but this of course includes the £50 print voucher and complimentary viewing session at our studio. (For sessions that are over 30 miles from our studio, mileage is charged at 55p per mile.)
